Overbooking

Accepting more reservations or guests than the venue can reliably accommodate at the same time.

Why it matters

How overbooking affects a service

Overbooking may be intentional or caused by disconnected channels and incorrect availability. It creates guest dissatisfaction and operational pressure, so inventory changes should remain synchronised.

Example

In practice

Two systems sell the final terrace table for 20:00 because neither receives the other's update, creating an overbooking.
